The Aggressives



Certainly a Enjoyable Watch - Deeper Than I Expected. ; D
The name doesn't do this film any justice.
This movie isn't a cheesy teen-crush movie.

The movie seems to be more about maturity than aggressive skating.
Don't get me wrong though - the skating was pretty good too. ; D

I don't typically "review things" - but this film deserved a comment and a rating.

No TAKE CARE OF MY CAT but deserves more exposure
I was completely blown away by South Korean director Jeong Jae-eun's debut feature Take Care of My Cat (2001) when I saw it three years ago, and so being the consummate auteurist that I am, I had to hunt down her second (and to date, most recent) feature, 2005's THE AGRESSIVES. It took a while, and I can tell you that the South Korean DVD I bought is now OP - but this review deals with the content, not specific DVD details, so this has little effect on my thoughts here.

While the earlier film is about a group of teenage girls, just out of high school and unsure where to go in life, thinking about careers and college, this film focuses mostly on boys, and on a singular obsession: in-line skating. Soyo (Jeong-myeong Cheon) is fascinated by the world of skating, and the kids his age and a little older who practice and show off in public parks every day until the police show up. Embarassing
This is very very hard to get through. There's nothing in this movie you haven't seen done better. The characters are horrendous and easily forgettable. If you're looking for a good Korean film then you should look elsewhere.
